Alien: Romulus brings back an unexpected figure to pull together the entire franchise and expand its themes.

To our surprise, Rook has the exact same face and voice as Ash.
And by the xenomorph, we probably mean the one fromAlien, which Ripley blew out into space.
Weyland-Yutani scientists finally recovered the xenomorph fromAlienand began studying, finding what Rook calls the Prometheus Strain.
More than just a wink to previous films, the Engineers play a big part in theRomulus climax.
However, the injection results in the most horrific abomination since the Ripley/xenomorph clones fromAlien Resurrection.
It also apparently was born with the xenomorphs intense aggression.
The final standoff between Rain and the xenoengineer echoes the themes ofPrometheus.
In light of that revelation, the Weyland experiments described by Rook are a punch in of abomination.
Humanity gains the eternal life it should not have.
