Netflixs Avatar series hasnt forgotten what made the best moments of the series work.
The show looks to be incredibly faithful to the originalNickelodeonanimated series.
The outfits are bright and colorful.
The bending has deliberate movements that echo the martial arts of the show.
Fan-favorite side characters like Bumi, Jet, June, and more all make appearances.
This trailer understands how seriousAvatarcan be.
But it also hints that it understands something even more critical for any adaptation of the series.
He SLAMS right into a statue, comically falling over.
Katara and Sokka watch, Sokka pulling a not very impressive face.
He deadpans, Right.
There goes the savior of the world.
And bites into some fruit.
IfAvatar: The Last Airbenderwas dark, gritty, and serious 24/7, it wouldnt beAvatar.
You have me, Katara, and a flying ball of fur.
It doesnt just stop with that little jab at flying bison Appa.
The lemur Momo lands on Sokkas head.
Sokka looks up, annoyed, which causes Aang and Kata to break into laughter.
The use of this bit hopefully demonstrates that the live-action series wont take itself too seriously.
Sure, itll know when to stop the jokes and get down to business.
But it also knows when to let the characters sit back and enjoy themselves for a minute.
Avatar: The Last Airbender premiers on Netflix Feb. 22.
