The Game Awards 2023 nominees havefinally been revealed, and they are…pretty standard, honestly.
Of course, this is an awards show, and its not an awards show without some nominee controversies.
For me, that falls somewhere between a snub and a surprise.
I thought there was a decent chance it could break through into one of them.
In any case, the discourse obviously wont end here.
At the very least, I suspected that the game would be a strong contender in several major categories.
Mind you,Starfielddoesnt have the same baggage surrounding it that something likeHogwarts Legacydoes.
That said, I actually think that was the right call.
This wasnt a case where the obvious nominee was treated as the inevitable nominee.
Regardless,Octopath Traveller 2is a truly special role-playing experience.
At the very least,Octopath Traveller 2deserved a Best Narrative nomination.
Its a fun and creative puzzle game with a neat central gimmick.
Having said that, this is still a surprising nomination.
Its just interesting to see thatViewfinderwas the game that seemingly survived an almost assuredly contentious canceling out voting process.
Going into the Game Awards 2023, I wasnt sure ifPhantom Libertywould even be eligible for an award.
