The movie that rebooted Bond finally gets the special edition it deserves…
This might not be an entirely popular view, but I wasnt entirely bowled over byCasino Royale.
So whats my problem withCasino Royale?
The movie comes on one disc and the extras on another.
So what did they do with the extra space that shifting the extras away gave them?
The original audio was uncompressed PCM 5.1, which is now being delivered as a Dolby TrueHD mix.
Im sure its technically better, but the advantage isnt obvious.
This disc isnt entirely extras free, as theyve included an informative commentary track.
Rounding out disc one is aKnow Your Double-O: The Ultimate James Bond Trivia Quiz.
The original version was very poor in this area, but whats on here fixes that comprehensively.
I especially foundBond in the Bahamasreally interesting, as it talks a lot about the writing and shooting ofThunderball.
If you felt slighted by the original versions extras, this release represents a heartfelt apology from Sony.
