It’s that time of the year: E3 is once again upon us.
What does that mean?
Den of Geek’s E3 2015 predictions are here!
Let me start by saying thatIm pretty great at predictions.
Okay, Im NOT awful.
I do well enough to get another chance to speculate a bit on this years E3, at least.
Luckily, E3 is really the place to celebrate the forward progress of the art form.
This is our Super Bowl.
Microsoft was unwise to assign this studio projects focused around their dying motion peripheral.
I doubt itll be a new IP.
Theres no better way to re-establish credibility than to re-introduce a classic IP, such asBanjo-KazooieorPerfect Dark.
I just dont think theyll stay quiet about it, not when they have all theArkham Knightmomentum.
OR, we could be introduced to a new WB Montreal Batman game.
They havent developed a console game since 2013sArkham Origins.
It might be time for the new Batman prequel or a brand new standalone adventure.
Perhaps even its own series.
Blizzards Overwatch Is Announced for Consoles
Were going to get someOverwatchannouncements, okay?
Theres no way Blizzard has been releasinggameplay videosso close to the show for no reason.
The first two big things the company will undoubtedly announce are closed/open beta dates and an official release date.
Dont expect this game until 2016, though.
BUT, the big announcement will probably beOverwatchs console release.
Valve Makes a Game
Does Valve ever need to make a game again?
No, probably not.
Steam, Steam Machines, andDotaare enough to keep the company afloat for the foreseeable future.
It really does seem like its game development days are over.
Still, nothing quite gets me as excited as a new Valve game.
Note that Im not sayingHalf-Life 3might happen.
Its NEVER going to happen, at least not this generation.
Theyve since jumped to theDonkey Kongseries, including the apes latest adventure,Tropical Freeze.
Their return to theMetroidfranchise would be a very big deal.
Lets hope this happens.
Its Fallout 4, Right?
Yes, my friend.
The fact that Bethesda is holding their first ever press conference is a good sign.
And it feels good.
We might even get a release date, but dont bet on it.
Its probably not hitting shelves until 2016.
(E3 really has become a trade show for games coming out the following year.)
But dont worry, I thinkDOOMwill keep you warm at night.
I wrote more about Bethesdas E3 2015 press conference here.
After last years littleMass Effect 4tease, theres no doubt the game will be present at this years show.
Well get an official title (its apparently NOT called Mass Effect 4) andmaybea release date.
But expect a gameplay trailer or a cinematic or something.
Anything that places us in the new universe of this game and gets us pumped.
It might seem a bit unlikely, especially sinceBattlefrontwasjustunveiled atStar WarsCelebration.
And lets not forget that Disney Infinity 3.0 will feature a whole lot ofStar Wars.
There really is no better time to charge at fans withStar Warslike a mad rancor.
If your brain didnt just blow up like Alderaan, I dont know what to tell you.
I wrote more about EAsStar Warsgames here.
The Return of Prince of Persia
Its been five years since the lastPrince of Persiagame.
This classic series has really taken a backseat sinceAssassins Creedcame along.
Still, this classic series could make a great spring release while gamers wait for their yearlyACdose.
I can always hope.
But Ive already said too much.
If you havent played this game yet, get to it.
And if you have, cross your fingers that this is one of the announcements at this years E3.
Scary thought, because there goesMetal Gear,Castlevania, andSilent Hill, the big three properties at Konami.
They almost certainly have to.
It no longer matters that most of the heavy promotion will go toMGV.
Its imperative that the company gives its fans some sense of the future.
Konami wont announce a replacementSilent Hillgame any time soon.
Not while it can be compared to Kojima and Guillermo del TorosP.T.It might really fall onCastlevanias shoulders.
But, well…that franchise isnt exactly doing so hot after the dreadfulLords of Shadow 2, either.
So what the heck should they announce?Somethingat this point.
Someone Decides to Make a New Bond Game
Saying it a thousand times really isnt enough.
I predict this pretty much every time I get up on my soapbox, but I cant help it.
The world needs Bond.
His days as a relevant FPS character are over?
I refuse to live in a world where James Bond is no longer shooting bad guys on consoles.
Activision has since let go of the license for good.
Thats the ultimate dream.
Wouldnt that be amazing?
Now is really the time to announce a new Bond game.
The new film,SPECTRE, is out on Nov. 6.
Daniel Hill and I spoke to revitalize the Bond franchisein a recent article.
First Look at Telltales Marvel Game
Speaking of Telltale, how about that Marvel game theyre developing?
It would be nice to see how exactly theyre going to pull it off.
Can there be a Marvel point-and-click adventure a laThe Walking Dead?
Its a little odd.
Is it an action-adventure game maybe?
Add to that: OverkillsThe Walking Deadgame.
Overkill is the developer behind the Payday games, which are excellent in their own right.
(Wouldnt mind aPayday 3announcement, actually.)
All we have to go on in terms of theirTWDgame is a pretty minimalist trailer from last summer.
The poor guy has suffered through way too many terrible fates in the past few years.
Were not even going to talk aboutSonic Boom.
Not even a partnership with Nintendo could save Segas flagship series.
I did say I was going to dream a little, right?
Naughty Dog doesnt really push multiple releases at a time, and with good reason.
The amount of hype behind their games is enough that they can wait several years to announce a sequel.
So dont count on seeingThe Last of Us 2at this years show.
Still, wouldnt it be neat?
