Everyone has their own favourite incarnation of Doctor Who, but which has the most consistently entertaining stories?
Stephens got a little experiment… Because story after story, Smiths reign as the Doctor has delivered.
That was the first time Ive ever done that, and it was hugely enjoyable.
But, anyway, lets go through the debuts.
They tend to involve the actor concerned finding his feet, and often the stories themselves suffer.
In an entirely different way from Paul McGanns single story.
This leaves us with the two real bottom of the barrel offerings from Doctors Six and Seven.
Yes, folks, can we have a big hand forThe Twin DilemmaandTime And The Rani?
No, thought not.
I suppose its quite contentious as to which someone prefers.
Thus it is that the slightly pacierTime And The Ranisurvives, whereasTwin Dilemmadoes not.
It does, quite literally, survive.
This is our first round which will eventually lead us to showing just how great Matt Smith is.
Colin Bakers reign will not feature from here on in, as hes eliminated in round one.
Round two, then.
Lets look at the second stories.
This round is swifter as the Eighth Doctor, despite some excellent audio successes, hasnt turned up.
Not even aDimensions In Timeor aTime Crashfor our appraisal.
And so it is that the other nine Doctors survive Round Two without much of a challenge.
Were down to eight Doctors.
What have we got on offer here?
Not that keen on the Spitfires in space, though.
Whats left, then?
Can we ditch a story largely based on Nuzzink in ze vurld vill ztop me now?
EvenAmbassadorsdoesnt drag as much as this story.

Maybe youll disagree, but if so, then I dont think youve seenRevenge Of The Cybermenrecently enough.
Round six, with six Doctors left and theres a bit of a mixed bag here.
What else is there?
Theres nothing of particularly high quality here, although I thinkEarthshockhas its merits.

Its EcclestonsFathers Dayand it eats up the opposition for lunch.
What is the opposition?
Even amongst the D graders, theres still one for the chop, isnt there, Peter?
The Empty Child,The Impossible Planet/Satan Pit,Vincent And The DoctorandThe Reign Of Terror.
Certainly,Reign Of Terroris pretty good stuff, but I dont think its a match for these three.
And so it is that its the three most recent Doctors who scrape through to Round Nine.
And we also encounterBoomTownandLove and Monsters.
