Bob Clark started three subgenres.
you could even argue that he started the zombie-vampire hybrid movies withDeathdream.
He was such an innovator and such an incredible director.
Its written by Warren Leight with Charles Kaufman.
Its this incredible satire.
Its a brutal movie.
I mean, the stuff they do in this movie is pretty sick.
But I didnt realize how muchHostel IItook fromMothers Day.
Every one of my films in some way takes fromMothers Day.
Its a movie that was made for $100,000.
To me, its a great example of using the camera to show character.
Its really such a smart film, they created commercials [for it].
Theres a reason that that movie has lasted.
New Years Evil (1980)
New Years Evilis a fun one.
Not my favorite, but if youre going to be a completist, you gotta seeNew Years Evil.
My Bloody Valentine (1981)
Its such a fun movie.
But its a really, really good guessing game of guessing who the killer was.
The movies got it.
[They] said, Why are people shooting guns at the president?
Cut all the movies [down].
Its these damn horror films!
So they [went], Well, we dont have one in June.
Lets just call itFriday the 13th, which now has become a holiday because of the movie.
The classic [of the series] isFriday 13th Part IIIin 3D.
People forget thats where he got the hockey mask.
Ill always love that one.
One of the seminal moviegoing experiences.
I think we were 12 years old and we were not supposed to see it.
… Its such a fun movie.
It really takes its time, and they do some really traumatic stuff in that film.
The deaths are so fun, theyre so inventive, it has a terrific ax.
April Fools Day (1986)
LoveApril Fools Day, [directed by] Fred Walton.
A lot of people dont like it because of the ending.
They feel like it negates the movie, but I really, really love it.
I think the kills are really creative; theyre really fun.
