If youve read our review ofThe Hunger Games, youll know we thoroughly enjoyed it.
Did you know itd be good when you were making it, or were you worried at all…?
LH:There were too many extremely passionate people around it for it to be bad.
Gary Ross is such an amazing director and I think we all felt comfortable enough to really trust him.
His vision is, I think, perfect and really captured what Suzanne Collins was trying to do.
EB:Shes very shy!
EB:She was not around very much.
And you cant yo everyone when youre making this kind of movie.
When they were filmingPotter, Rowling was providing notes throughout did Suzanne give you anything like that?
EB:Not to me!
LH:Not to me, no.
EB:I just got a note saying I think youll make a great Effie.
EB:Well, I really loved the books.
[laughs]
I think I emailed him like the day after he got the job.
I was like Oh!
You got the job!
So, anyway, Id like to play Effie!
EB:I just think shes a very fun character to play.
I had a great time playing her.
EB:It was really fun to watch myself disappear in the mirror every day and watch Effie appear.
We had an a-ha!
Do you think people will take that message away from the film, then?
Liam, how do you think you would have fared as Peeta?
LH:I dont know.
Are you an angry man?
LH:Am I an angry man?
EB:Its definitely one of the reasons that I loved the trilogy.
Thats what I love about the books; shes that beacon of hope in a really dark world.
Could you picture anyone but Jennifer Lawrence in that role?
EB:She really is.
I honestly cant picture anyone else.
I was so happy when they cast her.
and I was like, oh, they dont know, but they are gonna cast me!
Which was really nice.
And you know, we cant hey everyone.
Theres just no way to do it.
So I hope the haters…
I generally dont read anything on the internet and try not to, but hopefully everyones pleased.
Have you had any run-ins with fans?
Its really fun to be part of it all.
LH:Im pretty outdoorsy!
So I think Id probably do okay for a little while.
Hopefully Id be able to catch rabbits and squirrels…
The marketing for this has been brilliant in that its really emphasised Katnisss bravery.
Do you think men will be put off, or will they go and see this film?
Im all about it.
I dont think it really matters.
EB:Nobody asks me if I care about going to see a guy-fronted film!
How was working with Woody Harrelson?
EB:Woody… Im in love with him.
LH:Me too!
EB:Everyone is in love with Woody.
Hes a great Haymitch.
He has the best wardrobe of anyone in the world.
So you got actually styled by Cinna?
EB:No, we helped ourselves!
Elizabeth, you seem like the biggest of many fans of the books involved with the film.
How do you, as aHunger Gamesfangirl, feel about some of the changes that were made?
If theres anything that, as a fan, I was missing… its really hard to say.
What are you looking forward to filming, from the other books?
LH:Theres a lot of pretty crazy stuff in the third one.
EB:Yeah, I was gonna say!
EB:Its gonna be intense.
LH:We havent shot anything else yet.
EB:No, no ones even read [the second script].
Have you been contracted for three or four movies?
EB:Can we confirm or deny that?
I do not believe we can confirm or deny that.
I can confirm there are three books.
Three books and I dont know how many movies.
-Did you ever have any concerns about how the violence would be handled in a movie like this?
We knew we were making a PG-13 movie, so its important to remember that.
I think its a great balance.
LH:These characters, too… you feel for them.
But the violence, its not glorified in any way; its not like you go hurrah!
And I surround myself with good people who keep me me, and bring the best out of me.
I dont generally hang out with crazy people.
Liam, how was going fromThe Hunger GamestoThe Expendables 2?
LH:Yeah, it was a whole different world.
Its pretty amazing to be on set with all those guys, guys Ive grown up watching.
It was probably one of the most crazy sets Ive been on.
It was a very cool experience.
it was literally Action!
because a young extra had collapsed on the ground.
EB:And that continued for three days in a row.
They were dropping like flies!
It was a lot of hydrating, with these kids.
The air conditioning unit had the temperature on it, and it never got below 87 degrees Fahrenheit.
My full body was drenched.
I stood up and sweat poured off me into a puddle.
