Did you catch the not-so-subtle Quidditch inside joke Newt makes?

When Mary Lou asks Newt: Are you a seeker?

He responds: Im more of a chaser, really.

Both seeker and chaser are positons in Quidditch.

Tina Goldstein is a former Auror, which is the wizarding equivalent of an FBI detective.

This is also Harry Potters adult profession.

Theres a lot of subtle Hufflepuff pride in this movie.

We see the scarf when a customs officer opens up Newts case as hes coming into New York City.

Things are going to get worse for Fawley before they get better.

He will be forced from office in 1939 after not taking the Grindelwald threat seriously enough.

In Newts case, it is unclear what was at fault.

In both cases, Dumbledore argued on behalf of the student, but was overruled.

Its hard to miss the Deathly Hallows necklace Graves gives Credence in the movie.

Not because he craves power, but because he is interested in proving their existence.

The symbol of the Deathly Hallows is not inherently evil.

Graves wrongly believes Credence to be a Squib, a non-magical person who is born into a magical family.

Yeah, Im leaning hard on that cat connection.

Queenie is a Legilimens, someone who is able to extract the thoughts and feelings of others.

When the Obscurus sweeps past Tina, all of the street lights go out in succession.

We get a Merlins beard!

The excalmation is a popular one in the Harry Potter universe.

The bigger-on-the-inside magic of Newts case has lots of precedent in the Harry Potter universe.

The execution chamber within the MACUSA has some sort of Pensieve-like qualities.

Nifflers are mentioned by Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter series.

Hereallywants one, guys.

And who could blame him?

Theyre apparently really good at collecting loot.

The creature we see Newt performing a mating dance for in Central Park is an Erumpent.

The Golden Trio use it to escape the Lovegood home when they are ambushed there by Ministry forces.

We see a few of the last Graphorns in existence (at the time) in Newts case.

Graphorns are also mentioned in theHarry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkabanvideo game.

(Yeah, I was kind of confused at this part, too.)

The many-winged, Hippogriff-like creature is native to America and closely related to a Phoenix.

Ilvermorny School was named after the Thunderbird.

A Billywig is a bright blue, winged insect native to Australia.

Newt mentions that he worked with Ukranian Ironbelly on the Eastern Front during the war.

This fits in with what we know about Newts history working with the Dragon Research and Restraint Bureau.

An Occamy is the snake-like creature that changes sizes based on its space.

Occamy eggs are part of Gilderoy Lockharts intended recipe for his line of hair products.

Newts best creature friend Picket is a Bowtruckle.

Eddie Redmayne has called Picket his favorite beast from the film.

A Nundu is a leopard-like, toxic-breathed mammal that is extremely hard to subdue.

Nundu were first featured in theFantastic Beastsbook, but were also mentioned in theDeathly Hallows Part 1video game.

Who is Grindelwald?

The two met in Godrics Hollow when they were both teenagers.

They imagined a world where wizards had control over Muggles in a benevolent world order.

Presumably, the rest of theFantastic Beastsseries will follow Grindelwalds rise to power and eventual defeat.

The ordered execution is making more and more sense.

Anthony is a member of Dumbledores Army and fights alongside Harry in the Battle of Hogwarts.

This means that Newt Scamander is Luna Lovegoods grandfather-in-law.
