We chatted to her asGluearrives on DVD.
So where does 2014 sit in all of that?
I never expected that Id be doing as many jobs as I did.
Then maybe within five years I might get something.
But last year was intense.
I did so many different things.
I wish Id have sat back more and gone wow!
But because I was so nervous, and it still feels like I am new to this game…
I was worrying, do they think Im any good?
But yeah: it was incredibly intense, but so fun.
I was so lucky.
It just went bang, which was grand!
Would you agree with that, though?
A lot of your background is theatre, where you do get an instant feeling of whether somethings working.
But how have you found your recent screen work?
Is your instinct as finely tuned, say onPride?
Anyone in that cast knew it was special.
You havent got a clue!
Im one of those actors who likes to kick the shit out of myself.
All the stuff barPridethat Ive done, you dont have a clue how its going to be received.
I constantly think Ill be found out any second.
Some of the crazy stuff that goes through your head.
Can you relate to that?
The fame, the exposure, the scrutiny?
[Laughs] I dont really get that recognized, really!
Now shes playing that gobby, dozy one inDoctor Who!
I still find it hilarious that someone wants to give me money for doing this!
I think its hilarious, and beautiful.
Theres a lot of waiting around, and it needs a lot of patience!
Thats the only bit I can relate to!
When it came toGluespecifically then, presumably its a Jack Thorne script thats the main attraction?
Yeah, pretty much!
I remember reading the first pages and going, ah, yeah, okay!
I did every ounce of prep I could.
I found out about the casting director, who Id never met before.
I trained with Billy Howell, who plays James.
The script was wonderful, and it was something a bit different, you know?
And the actors they brought in were really wonderful young actors.
Im not so young, so whatever, but they are!
To work with them was great.
I loved it, I really did.
There were times when it was like were not going to get this scene and we were rushing around.
At times like that, though, I feel more sorry for production and the crew.
The crew work non-stop from the minute they get in and have their breakfast to the minute were done.
But they just crack on.
It was low budget, but we never really wanted for anything.
but I wonder if switching to a countryside locale was part of the appeal here?
Its definitely more than a murder mystery.
Theres all sorts of stuff in there that people can relate to.
Billy Howells character is similar.
It was so much more than a whodunnit pop in thing.
Does that bother you?
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and you like what you like.
In some places, thats unavoidable.
The only reason I find it frustrating is is it due to the content of the film?
Is that a reason people dont want to watch it?
Thats the most important thing.
I expected it to go on for a second series, definitely.
I dont know whether it is [one hasnt been announced].
It only bothers me because I know the hard work thats gone into it.
But its like anything else in life.
You cant ram it down someones throat.
They either want to see it or they dont, and its word of mouth.
Thats how it should spread.
I do have to ask, then, have we seen the last of Shona inDoctor Who?
Because she seemed to go down a storm?
With Shona, theres been no talk of her returning.
But youd be keen to return to the role if you had the chance?
I loved working with the people.
Theyre wonderful to work with and incredibly talented.
God, I fancy him so much.
The people, the production and the crew are the nicest people.
I would definitely go back and do moreDoctor Who.
Whether theyd have me back, I dont know!
Ah, but youll always have the Shona Shuffle…
[Laughs] Thats it, thats it!
Which I reprised on Boxing Day in my home town!
[Proudly] I did!
I wouldnt say so, no.
Im still auditioning like every other actor.
Sometimes I don#t get an audition and go, oh, its the end of my life!
Most of the time I think Ill never work again!
But I think people know what Ive done obviously now.
In respect of things Ive been in.
But I understand thats not the way the game always works!
Faye Marsay, thank you very much!
Glue series one is out on DVD now.
