making its way intoReturn Of The Jedi).

And inevitably, these changes are being greeted with no small amount of disdain.

Weve been here before, of course.

This is the change, its argued, that matters most.

That depends on who youre talking to.

Youre likely to have an opinion on this already, so Ive little inclination to foist one on you.

Since then, of course, the edits have kept coming.

That, not for the first time, appeared to make George Lucas few friends.

But lets go back a bit further in time for a minute.

But with theStar Warssaga?

George Lucas has surely, like it or lump it, picked up the mantle.

Its hard not to have some sympathy with the idea, too.

Going back toFantasia, though.

The difference is that Disney put the original version out alongside the updated one come the disc release.

And its here where ire against George Lucas cranks up a few gears.

Id say with good reason, too.

Im under no illusion that the films are his to do with what they want.

What I struggle with is the reasons given.

Gone was a 5.1 surround sound track, in favour of the 2.0 mix.

Again, thats his prerogative.

Its disappointing, but there you go.

The reason given why we dont get those original cuts though is arguably the most disappointing.

Apparently, itd be too expensive to do.

I, and many others, call bullshit on this one.

Sure, lots of people would be pissed about it.

But back to the Blu-rays.

Or when the prequel trilogy came out.

And heres the reason why: most of us are all talk.

And thats hardly going to discourage George Lucas from continuing the process he began all those years ago.

Its all too well us saying that we want the original films on Blu-ray.

But the blunt truth is that we cant have them.

We get what were given.

The same George Lucas who has spent the past four decades pushing technical boundaries, and embracing technology.

So we end up where we started.
