Todd Philips anti-hero sequel is messy, dull and too long, despite the great cast.
There has been much discourse of late about the idea of superhero movie fatigue.
Too much CGI, no peril, hokey humor, etc.
Well this aint that.
But that might be one of the few plus points of this absolute mess of a movie.
Picking up some time after the events ofJoker, Arthur Fleck (Phoenix) is incarcerated in Arkham.
There he meets Harleen Lee Quinzel (Gaga).
Two hours and 20 mins of that is a lot.
Arthur killed six people, one on air, in the last movie.
The trial is hardly nail-biting.
When hes Arthur, hes very boring.
When hes Joker, hes very annoying.
And Harley is betrayed even further.
We know nothing about Lee other than that shes a liar and a fantasist.
And it still manages to have an unnecessarily mean spirited streak, despite so little actually happening.
A folly all round.
