Its safe to say that Civil Wars, Part 1and2, is whereLegend of KorraBook Two really started.
It doesnt help that theyre mistaken for servants, a misconception theyre quick to rectify.
Clarification only makes things worse.
This one brief scene set the stage for their entire storyline in Civil Wars.
The play between Tenzin, Kya, and Bumi is one of the best sequences in either series.
Tenzin insists their father loved them all equally.
Its entirely possible that Air Nomads had no concept of long-term partnership or marriage.
They certainly had no family unit as we know it.
Their sense of family was more abstract, and they considered themselves part of a greater cultural family.
In theAvatarworld, air is the element of freedom.
However, this has all changed.
The Air Nomads are gone.
Aang was the last.
Thus, he made them the Air Acolytes.
However, they were the next best thing.
Ironically, they had made Aangs culture more like the others, now consisting of a non-bending majority.
So, it seems Aang had made his peace with being the last airbender.
Which brings us back to our sibling rivalry.
Did Aang love Tenzin more than Kya and Bumi?
I sincerely doubt it, but did Tenzin get attention and special treatment his siblings didnt?
After all, he did have the future of an entire culture on his shoulders since childhood.
Aang was a good person.
He had to be the perfect dad too?
I mean, taking one kid on vacation with you and not the others… flawless parenting?
More to the point, Aangs parental shortcomings are completely consistent with his character and his background.
If you need help or attention, someone will give it to you.
You always have someone there.
Kya is clearly Water Tribe.
And if Bumi was spending all that time with Sokka, he doubtless became more Water Tribe by osmosis.
So, no, Aang wasnt the perfect father.
But he still loved his kids.
Which brings us back to Tenzin.
Three of Tenzins children are airbenders, and its likely his youngest will turn out to be one too.
Its natures way of restoring balance.
They are the future of his people and will hopefully go on to have airbending children of their own.
However, it is still entirely possible that the Air Nomads as they once existed will never return.
whom she has adopted as siblings in lieu of Jinora and Meelo.
Well done, sir.
with enough nuance and personality to make it hilarious in context.
Neither Tenzin nor Ikki can really appreciate the flaws the others siblings nor the virtues in their own.
