The 2005 adaptation of The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy divided fans.

Mark takes a look back…

This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

But it was liked by some, including this writer, and so its worth re-evaluating.

There was just one big problem.

The hardcore of fans didnt really take to it.

When I first saw the film, it was actually my favourite of that year.

feels abashed by Adams original words, a feeling that is uncharacteristic of the rest of the film.

This included the Vogsphere, Humma Kavula, and even the embellished romantic relationship between Arthur and Trillian.

Theres also a lot to be said for the cast of the film.

Not that the casting was note-perfect, of course.

Theres also a truly superb voice cast.

Alan Rickman as Marvin the paranoid android!

Stephen Fry as the voice of the Guide!

Helen Mirren as Deep Thought!

Thomas Lennon as Eddie the computer!

The League of Gentlemen as the Vogons!

This film has one of the best voice casts going, and its sorely underrated for that alone.

Theres also a very good musical score.

But alas, even the films cheeky sequel hook provoked ire.
