You cannot tell, you just want them to get out of your way.
The finished patchwork leaves only time for Tony and his enemies to smile for the cameras.
Is it a grand adventure about Earths Mightiest Heroes fighting sentient A.I.
or an origin for Vision and the Mind Stone?
A stripped down sequel where the team loses its sci-fi toys or a setup forThor: Ragnarok?
Its all those things and none of them.
Ultimately, its just a lot of bloated noise where even the snappy Joss Whedon dialogue sounds flat.
But hey, at least it teased Cap and Mjolnir.
The Incredible Hulk
The Incredible Hulkisvirtually a forgottenMCU entry.
Captain Marvel
Captain Marvelcame at a fairly inopportune time in the MCU.
The Tesseract-poweredCaptain Marvel is truly a forceto be reckoned with.
Eternals
Even before it was released into a sluggish pandemic box office landscape,Eternalshad an uphill battle.
It does look pretty though with all the on-location photography Zhao insisted on.
Its nice to see Marvel get out of Atlanta and away from almost entirely blue screens and Volume.
They should have another go, even if the Eternals themselves are left on the permanent backburner.
The Marvels
The Marvelsis not nearly as bad as the internet would lead you to believe.
But it also isnt particularly good.
Because the chemistry between the three leads is solid.
As it stands, there are moments of occasional fun here.
But these are good pieces of a movie which never come together in a satisfying whole.
Still, we gotTed Lassos Brett Goldstein as Hercules for about three seconds in a post-credits scene!
Only time will tell if Marvel will waste him, too.
Even by that standard, however,Captain America: Brave New Worldtook a circuitous route to screen.
Even better is Carl Lumbly as mistreated supersoldier Isaiah Bradley, providing some genuine pathos to the proceedings.
Thor
Can you believe that Thor was the first Marvel superhero to star in afourthsolo movie?
Not even Iron Man did that.
Marvel took one of its unlikeliest heroes seriously, and opened the doors for more to come.
Doctor Strange
Doctor Strangeis a tale of two movies.
Sound a bit likeanother Marvel origin story?
Yeah, thats kind of the problem with the first half of Scott DerricksonsDoctor Strange.
The second half, however, is a revelation.
Simply put: Lang is one of us, and were always delighted to see him.
But that is also a large part ofDeadpool & Wolveirnes charm.
Be that as it may, the movie is a genuinely laugh-out-loud good time.

Its an easy observation to make.

In retrospect, its still refreshing.
What better time to tap horror auteur James Gunn to tell a space-faring adventure about some Marvel comic nobodies?
No superhero movie inhabits Marvels desire for its films to be, well… marveled thanThor: Ragnarok.
This is superhero storytelling at its most reckless, fun, and free.
Black Panther
Black Pantheris the only Marvel movie to be nominated for Best Picture.
That kind of intense recognition both spotlights and obscures its cultural relevance.
But what Ryan Coogler,Chadwick Boseman, and company did with that voice is where it truly transcends.
When brought to life by a kinetic cast, it becomes one of the best movies of its genre.
It helps thatThe First Avengerhas such a game-changing ending.
Steve wakes up after 70 years in the ice to find the world he once knew gone.
