Marvel’s Inhumans — IMAX’s First TV Show Premiere

The way we watch TV is changing.

For many, that means smaller, mobile screens and a more isolated viewing experience.

Luckily, IMAX doesnt plan on letting the communal, big-screen viewing experience go out of style anytime soon.

This is the first time something like this has ever been done.

In that case, however, the episodes had aired on HBO six months prior.

They are not distributing something that already exists, but investing in the production process.

They chose Marvel/ABC to partner on this ambitious project, which is part business venture, part experiment.

IMAX gets into the TV game.

He gave us some invaluable insight.

IMAXs goal is to provide 52 weeks of compelling content, said Foster.

IMAX is growing faster than ever.

So, why not do this in a way that helps propel that television show into a different hemisphere?

But IMAX didnt simply want to repurpose old content.

It wanted to help create something new.

Well, it doesnt hurt that it is a Marvel property.

And IMAX already happened to have a great working relationship with Marvel and Disney.

As Foster put it, it doesnt make sense to watchSleepless in Seattlein IMAX.

The larger-than-life screens demand larger-than-life stories.

Its a television show.

ForInhumansshowrunner Scott Buck (Iron Fist),Inhumansis the perfect Marvel entity to take to IMAX.

The Inhumansdoesnt just happen in space or on Earth.

Reine, an IMAX fan himself, called the gig a dream come true.

you’re free to be in that world.

It was like a minivan, right?

So, like a mini cooper as big.

But, with this Alexa 65, it is a different ball game.

So you dont walk to the end of the room and youre like, uhp!

[And theyre like,] on camera, its gonna look massive …

But [on this set] they really built things to scale … Theres walk-and-talks.

I mean I could do like a ballet-and-talk in there.

There is plenty of action [in the first two episodes], said Iwan Rheon (Maximus).

I think to create this world and what theyve done fantastically in the physical sets is unbelievable.

I think that thats really where you see where the money is spent.

Of course, theres also a risk to IMAX, as well.

This is different, Foster said of the new business modelMarvelsInhumansrepresents.

Thats what makes this so fun.

There are no rules.

We get to create them.
