The Cove DVD review

This year’s Best Documentary winner at the Oscars turns up on DVD… Its almost hard to believeTheCoveisnt fiction, though by the final scenes, youll wish it was. Hes made aware of it by Ric OBarry, the man who trained dolphins for the TV seriesFlipper. OBarry hasnt been able to get proof of the slaughter himself. That alone would make this a documentary above and beyond most. But then theres the dolphins....

Old Dogs review

We might just have found the worst film of the year already. Mark checks out Old Dogs as it arrives in the UK. Whats this about, anyway? Is it about that? And what of Seth Green, being embraced by a gorilla? Um… well, its in there. How about Robin Williams being controlled like a human puppet? Its possible to over-egg that angle, but Ill be honest. There should be something funny about a petrified Seth Green being embraced by a huge gorilla....

God Of War III PlayStation 3 review

As for the actual gameplay, this is whereGod Of War IIIretains its traditional roots. Ah, the bosses. Each battle is well thought out, and all require some truly OTT tactics to take down. To use each power, it’s crucial that you switch to the weapon that bestows it. This means that the d-pad is now used to change weapons, rather than magic. I should take some time to mention the audio direction of the title, which is simply superb....

Looking back at Joel Schumacher‘s Flatliners

Elmos Fire, putting together a brat pack for the new generation. Egotistical Joe is next in line and agrees with Nelson that there is something out there. Survival Of The Dead DVD review

George A Romero’s latest zombie movie arrives on DVD. But is Survival Of The Dead a return to form? I remember watchingDiaryOf The Dead,Romeros previous entry in his ongoingDeadseries, and being hugely disappointed. Furthermore, I thought that any sequel would surely be a vast improvement… How wrong I was! The Island is the home to the feuding patriarchs of the only two families on the island. The Family Muldoon and the Family OFlynn have very different views of how to handle the dead....

6 spin-offs, mash-ups and new shows we’d love to see

We all know this. However, we think we have the perfect pairing… We suspect theyre remarkably evenly matched in the snark department. Just imagine the level of sarcastic debate and quick-witted tongue lashing possibilities. Theyd vocally and voice-overly thrash each other! (Thats assuming, of course, Poop Colas not real.) Of course, any kind of revival would leave those glory days long behind. And confirm Bullet Baxter is in there, too....

Hellbride DVD review

Is Hellbride the kind of DVD that accompanies a great night in with a curry? If only it were that simple. You see, theres just no getting around it:Hellbrideis a terrible film, regardless of artistic integrity. The seeds of a great idea are there, but the execution is shockingly poor. Some performances, particularly Rebecca Herods knowing turn as Nicole, are surprisingly competent. However, for the most part, the acting stakes are shockingly poor....

Top 10 things that videogames have taught us about the future

The world of videogames offers some very sage advice as to how to approach the future. With that in mind, here are the ten most important lessons videogames have taught us about the future. They could be the difference between living a long, healthy life and being vaporised by evil aliens. Sturdy, sturdy knee pads. Brutal Deluxe, Violent Desire, Garotting Strangers. One of those is made up. Also of note, when future sports make the move into three dimensions, they stop being as good....

Final Fantasy XIII Xbox 360 review

With the fans ever-preset cries for aFFVIIremake still ringing out loud, can episode thirteen make the grade? Yep, if ever there was aFinal FantasyLite, then this is it. Instead, Square has gone back to basics, of sorts. This brings up the games most prominent new battle dynamic, the paradigm system. Each of these roles alters the abilities a character has at any given time. This reduces your attack, but leaves a character free to heal as needed....

Kick-Ass review

Ladies and gents: this is the real deal. Realistically assessing that I wouldnt live that long, I chose to break out in spectacular fashion. Using my briefcase as a battering ram, I assaulted the window. It seemed for five of the six times I hit the thing that it was made of unobtainium. And the sixth time? Theres a point to this. I never had the heart to tell them the truth, nor about his trusted sidekick, Sammy Samsonite....

Martin Scorsese, Sir Ben Kingsley and Leonardo DiCaprio on Shutter Island

Mr Scorsese, what appealed to you most about the project? Was it the emotional and psychological subject matter, or the opportunity to mix up genres? MS:I think its both, and in that order. Really, the first element that I connected with was the emotion. Sorry, thats how it goes! That opened the door, and was really enticing. Sir Ben, this is your first time working with Scorsese. How did that work out?...

Couples Retreat iPod download review

Anthony downloads Couples Retreat to his iPod. Well, its probably not in the top ten. Maybe the top 50. Thats simply not true. There are four, maybe five. Theyre not particularly funny, but theyre definitely there, and two of them werent that bad. But then, considering its a comedy with almost no funny bits, why would you? However, like the rest of the film, this falls utterly flat. Theres simply no way we can recommend buying this film....
