Spidey is finally back where he belongs in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Spider-Man: Homecoming!
Spider-Man: Homecomingwas a big success at the box office, and a bigger success with critics and fans.
Robert Downey Jr. has joined up as Tony Stark/Iron Man.
Well get to the villains in a minute.
And where would Tony Stark be without Happy Hogan?
Jon Favreau is coming to the dance as Happy Hogan.
He probably wont have a ton of screentime, though.
Donald Glover has a role in the movie.
No, hes probably not Miles Morales.
But it would be pretty cool if he was, right?
Based on what we see in the trailer, hes probably a villain of some kind.
Laura Harrier (One Life to Live) is Liz Allan.
Tony Revolori is apparently Flash Thompson, but were not sure about that.
Deadlinereportsthat Michael Barbiere (Little Men) is here in an unspecified role.
Hes currently at work on the adaptation of Stephen KingsThe Dark Toweras Timmy.
Kenneth Choi (Judge Ito fromThe People vs. OJ Simpson) is Peter Parkers high school principal.
You might recognize him as Jim Morita fromCaptain America: The First Avenger.
Im from Fresno, chief.
(viaDeadline)
Silicon Valleys Martin Starr also has an undisclosed role.
Tyne Daly (ofCagney and Laceyfame)joined the castin yet another unnamed role.
Who is he playing?
Angourie Rice, who was really great in Shane BlacksThe Nice Guys, is also in the movie.
Varietybroke the newsthat Hannibal Buress is in the film.
Like most of these roles, nobody is saying who hes playing.
The Hollywood Reporteralso has wordthat Isabella Amara, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., and J.J. Totah are in the movie.
Theres no word on who theyre playing.
you’ve got the option to alsoexpect some other Marvel Cinematic Universe characters to appear, though.
Theres considerable appeal in the inclusion of the Vulture.
Using a seasoned actor like Keaton would only emphasize that further, in all the best possible ways.
We wrote more about that here.
I might see his point.
It makes it interesting to play.
The Vulture wont be the only villain in the movie.
Michael Chernus will play a recognizable, if fairly minor, Spider-Man villain.
According toDeadline, Mr. Chernus will play Phineas Mason, better known to Marvel fans as The Tinkerer.
So, lets hope Steve Ditko gets a nice prominent credit in this one, okay?
Its also unlikely that hes ever referred to as the Tinkerer on screen.
Hes apparently playing Shocker.
Spider-Man: Homecoming Story
And heres the official synopsis.
Dont get too excited, because its frustratingly vague.
Weve also been promised that there wont be any more Spidey origin stories.
At this point, audiences want to see Uncle Ben die again even less than Peter does.
Instead, Kevin Feige says thatSpider-Man: Homecomingwill allude to those events,so dont expect too much clutter.
So you want real story stuff?
You arent gonna find it here.
Marvel is starting us off with a Spidey who already has some official connections.
Since Tony Stark enlisted Spidey inCivil War, hes at least already on the radar of various official forces.
This ties into two very different things, both of which have the same title.
There are two hallmarks ofUltimate Spider-Manthat are pretty clear influences on how this movie is being approached.
The most obvious is Peters age.
Peter was a high school graduate by the opening moments ofThe Amazing Spider-Man 2.
I think Marisa Tomei can handle all of that pretty well.
Its a little ominous, but it makes sense in context.
Peter isnt thrilled about it, mind you.
But what the hell do I know, right?
Perhaps most importantly, this one should have a different tone than previous outings.
Hes just 15 now.
This one fulfills the former, and theres a neat excuse for the latter.
Sure, weve had accurate Spider-Man costumes before, in four of the five previous Spidey movies.
But Mike, I can hear you say, that costume looks like crap.
How can you like it?
I like it so much preciselybecauseit looks like crap, to tell you the truth.
They gave us a fairly cool in-story explanation for the new Spider-Man costume inCivil War.
Its a Stark design, and he may have perfected the webshooters Peter already designed.
Remember the amazingly perfect hoodie-costume we got in Raimis firstSpider-Manmovie?
This is totally a Stark touch.
In a roundabout way, all of this feels kind of a callback to theCivil Warcomics.
I told you I could go on forever about the costume.
Of course, this isnt the first homemade Spidey costume weve seen on screen.
Check it out:
So, I love this.
Most of em dont look very good, for starters.
Why am I linking to it?
Well, these photos?
Hes definitely a kid in a suit.
This is how Spidey should look.See the full gallery here!
