Television currently has a lot of monsters.

There was a time when horror televisionespeciallycomedichorror televisionwas a niche interest.

DEN OF GEEK: How did you figure out the approach and direction for the shows second season?

I wouldnt want anyone else in those roles, and if I did, I wouldnt tell you.

But they just nail it.

So I treated this second season like a second act.

Now its time to really get these characters in trouble.

Hes sort of playing a double-blind game, which I thought was an interesting direction to take these characters.

Im often like, How wouldBattlestar Galacticahandle this situation and then whats our version of that?

Were there any crazy ideas that you guys couldnt crack or decided to shelve in the end?

They did this really well inBladeII.

Im not going to topThe Walking Dead, so why even try?

Another episode, Girls Night does a riff onThe Shining.

Its just fun to get to play with your favorite tropes.

Then on top of that there are things that I want to do, like Evil Denise.

Theres a strong case to be made there.

Oh absolutely, and she always was!

Stan is the object and Evies the subject.

Thats always been the case.

Also, the character of Stan was originally a much smaller role.

But then John got the part and obviously that led to the character changing in a lot of ways.

However, the intention of the character never changed.

Stan doesnt want to do any of this crap that hes caught up in.

Hes not interested and doesnt care.

When that happened to me it made me want to be a detective for the rest of the summer.

This was in 1976 because in 1977 I wanted to be Han Solo.

I was lucky that David Koechner was available too and stuff like that worked in my favor as well.

I think that Willards Mill is kind of essential.

Its like Twin Peaks or Collinsport, Maine fromDark Shadows.

Its this weird, semi-magical geographical location thats tucked away.

It sort of feels like its still stuck in the 70s over there.

It certainly has the color palette of the time.

A lot of people have talked about us doing a crossover withAsh Vs.

I dont think they would either.

Im friends with all those guys over there.

But Im all for taking the show to places like that.

I also like travelling through time.

Stan Against Evilssecond season premieres on November 1stat 10pm with back-to-back episodes on IFC.
