Between season 1 and season 5 is an entire life.
By the end of the two-part premiere, Georgiou was dead and Burnham was in prison for mutiny.
Things have certainly changed since then.
But its also a journey thats resulted in one of the most unique characters inStar Trekhistory.
Unlike the previous shows, earlyDiscoveryfocused less on the ensemble and more on Burnham herself.
When asked how she managed to pull off that tricky acting challenge, Martin-Green gives the mostStar Trekanswer possible.
Its the crew and the cast, she tellsDen of GeekatSXSW 2024.
All of those things help keep Burnham consistent.
I dont maintain that consistency in a vacuum.
I have a lot of people to be grateful for it.
Those are Ajalas words as he describes how glorious it was to play that episode opposite Martin-Green.
WhenDen of Geekmagazine asks Martin-Green about that backstory, the actor reveals she actually knows the details.
What was this big thing that happened month three?
Whats this big thing that happened seven months in?
No, it may not look like otherTrekensembles.
But Burnham is very much part of a community now.
And then, we came to season 5 not knowing it would be our last season.
And yet, we came to this knowing and understanding who we are.
I think that journey comes with freedom, and actualization, and leads to better creativity.
In season 5, were a fully formed found family.
But what does this mean for Burnham herself?
We know thatTrekwont leave the 32nd century yet, with aStarfleet Academyseries now in production.
And the Mirror Universe equivalent of Burnhams old CO Philippa Georgiou will return in the upcomingSection 31TV movie.
Are there plans for a new Burnham adventure afterDiscovery?
Martin-Green doesnt let any news slip, but its clear that she has thoughts on her characters future.
Well, Ill just say I wouldnt be opposed!
Anything is possible, she says.
Weve seen that anything is possible in this franchise, Martin-Green continues.
Exciting as the idea is, Martin-Green isnt getting ahead of herself.
But, for now, I have to applaud our showrunner, Michelle Paradise, and the writers.
Maybe the better way to say it is that its honorable.
Its an honorable end.
That is an entire life, and a good one at that.
