Drama, action, tears, social commentary, complexity, beauty.
These narrative have it all.
And were not just talking about the stories being told, but the WAY theyre told.
Video games offer a level of interactivity that no other form of media can offer.
Developers put you in the main characters shoes.
Your story is their story.
These games come alive and you are thrust into a story thats unbelievable and heart-wrenching.
Uncharted 2
This is the closest well get to a goodIndianaJonesgame where he isnt a Lego.
The story escalates, which is why the tension works so well.
Nathan doesnt start out looking for the tree of life.
Alan Wake
This the first game Ive played thats captured the writing process so well.
Through out the story, Alan questions whats real and what isnt.
Is his wife dead?
This is a true examination of what happens when your mind begins to slip.
At first, this game is a murder mystery.
Youve woken up in a public bathroom with a dead man you dont remember meeting or killing.
But there is blood all over your clothes and your heart is about to beat out of your chest.
Did I do this?
This game works so well because it lets us into the minds of several characters.
Enter crazy blood cult and a crapload of strange visions.
You couldnt have games like Borderlands, Metro: Last Light, or Rage without it.
The story is at its finest when punching you in the face with social commentary.
What are we willing to do to survive?
Steal, murder, eat each other?
Blow up your enemies?
At what point do we lose sight of decency and become the animals we all really are at heart?
BioShock
On the other hand, you cant simply call this game a hardcore survival horror game.
Grisly murders and civil war everywhere!
And that twist at the end (so in-your-face obvious!!)
leaves you gasping for air.
The Last of Us
Will it be regarded as Naughty Dogs true masterpiece?
Obviously, its headed for several game of the year awards.
This story has a moral compass that not many games have been able to achieve.
Are you willing to sacrifice yourself for a little girl whos carrying a virus thats killed billions of people?
Is there ever a right time to kill another human being?
Half-Life 2
The king of all science fiction games.
Gordon Freeman is awakened by the G-Man for a new assignment.
Along the way, you jump into teleporters and venture to domesticate headcrabs.
Metal Gear Solid 2
Probably the most interactive storyline on this entire list.
Also, the most frustrating.
This game is out to confuse and fool its audience.
Heavy Rain
Another game by Quantic Dream that definitely deserves mention.
This game has the grand scale, romanticism, and fantasy that this subgenre of scifi requires.
