He had to fight his father, who punished him with his scar and banishment.
They were never that important and after this we dont learn much about them.
NetflixsAvatar: The Last Airbendertook this original story and made one crucial change that drastically improved upon it.
Zuko cant hold back, its a terrible plan.
Soldiers are gonna die, and for what?
Its unworthy of a Fire Nation officer.
Ozai banishes Zuko, giving him the goal of capturing the Avatar.
Zukos crew is the 41st Division.
This inspired change breathes life into Zukos crew.
Where in the original series they were barely notable, here theyre given new relevance.
Everyday Zukos around them hes reminded theyre the cause of his banishment.
While he saved their lives, were they worth it?
How can he reconcile the actions he believed were right with the ever-present resentment and disappointment of his father?
It also gives weight to the newfound dedication Zukos crew has toward him.
They didnt just hear Zukos tragic backstory and simply think better of him.
They learn over the course of this episode that theyre alive because of him.
Hes their prince and theyre ready to do anything for him.
Most importantly, they care about him as a person… Zuko has to take responsibility for his actions and live with the consequences, good and bad.
The change welded two separate pieces of the originals story, drastically enhancing them both in the process.
