This year’s Best Documentary winner at the Oscars turns up on DVD… Its almost hard to believeTheCoveisnt fiction, though by the final scenes, youll wish it was.
Hes made aware of it by Ric OBarry, the man who trained dolphins for the TV seriesFlipper.
OBarry hasnt been able to get proof of the slaughter himself.
That alone would make this a documentary above and beyond most.
But then theres the dolphins.
What happens to them is what makesTheCoveso heart-breaking.
Yes, people hunt animals.
The sheer viciousness of whats happening in Taiji compounds the horror.
Theres one scene halfway through that acts as a portent for the final shots of the slaughter.
Every leap it takes leaves blood spilling out into the water.
Watching it thrash helplessly and eventually sink below the water, she cant help but break down in tears.
TheCoveis filmmaking at its finest.
You wont forget it soon.
As the scientist notes,I have not eaten tuna since this experiment.
Itll make you regret stocking up on cans of the fish, thats for sure.
The one thing missing from the DVD extras is more footage of the slaughter.
