Passive, energy efficient, and occasionally bird-killing housing isn’t just a creation for Showtime’s The Curse.

The morning after I moved into my house, I heard a thud on the back patio.

Three little birds were on my doorstep, but definitely not in a chilled-out Bob Marley way.

And it felt like an auspicious beginning to my familys life in our new space.

The mirrors also attract birds.

One solution here is to add insulation.

Or, in the peculiar case of Whitney and Ashers homes, to maybe not even have windows?

I dont remember seeing any?

A home with few (or no?!)

windows offers maximum privacy but minimum exposure to light.

Its starting to feel like these houses really are prisons…

Or are they thermoses?

That all sounds like torture.

When Whitney encounters the bird, shes waiting for a blow test at her and Ashers newest build.

A blow test is a non-invasive test that determines how much air is escaping a house.

While Whitney might not be displacing the people of Espanola anytime soon, shes certainly displaced the birds.

And so did I.

Two other crows followed suit.

The circle of life was on glorious display.

What could be more eco-friendly than that?

Our blinds were installed a few days later, and we havent had a bird incident since then.

The crows still lie in wait every morning, though.
