The effect is a visceral lucidity thats as freewheeling as Michael Keatons schizophrenic onscreen alter ego, Riggan Thomson.

Having once forsaken depth for commercialisms fleeting attention, the films arc is about desperately regaining admiration.

While obviously paralleling Keatons own biography, the character feels like really a proxy for Inarritu.

It says popularity is prestiges slutty little cousin but it is basking in having all of the above.

Instead, its best to just get lost in the madness of the years most fascinating film.
