Hence a rivalry turns into a battle of wills fought with consistent dryness and zero dignity.
You wont stop smiling.
It brushes on difficult themes, and sees not always likeable people doing not always likeable things.
The premise ofOrphansis about four siblings who come together for their mothers funeral in Scotland.
Mullan, who co-wrote the script as well, spends time exploring the fractured relationships between the characters.
Fraser also puts in good work with a performance of a standard he would match again inThe Quiet American.
But Lynn Redgrave is the one who comes closest to matching the majesty of McKellen here.

Gary Ross doesnt direct many films.
His films are a rare treat.
ButPleasantvillewas the movie that marked him out as a very special filmmaker.
No wonder people get excited when Gary Ross directs a new movie.
Proyas also directed such genre films asThe Crow, I, Robot,andKnowing.Dark Cityis arguably his finest work.
But if youre looking for the absolute gem, thenA Simple Planis most certainly it.
This dark crime drama is most certainly one of the best.
Its a drama about neo-Nazis and racial tension in Venice, California.
