Hence, everything discussed below is dealing with domestic box office, i.e.
the movies release in North America.
It opens on the Fourth of July weekend against strong competition (see below).
Going by the trailers, the results will be hilarious.
It should be one of the summers surprise hits.
So, it probably will end up with less than $200 million total.
LikeStar Trek Beyond, it has to contend withSuicide Squadin week two, limiting its overall box office.
And that was with an $18 million budget!
It just doesnt seem to be as necessary or obvious a sequel as 2014s22 Jump Streeteither.
At least its coming out early enough in the season to avoid sequel fatigue (hopefully).
So, Lionsgate must know they have something good on their hands again.
Theres at least a couple original movies out this summer, too.
Theyre also joined bySNLs Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.
But its a great concept that should connect with kids today just as much as the original did.
Expect decent business despite its less than prime release date.
The Extraterrestrial. The BFGhas a similar epic fantasy aesthetic to that classic, similar to the earlyHarry Pottermovies.
These things should help bring in families over the Fourth of July holiday with schools out and such.
It has some competition that weekend (see below) but nothing too worrisome in the long run.
Thus it should be good counterprogramming.
would be suicide (and not of the coolSuicide Squadtype).
May 20 The Angry Birds Movie vs. At least in the case of Memorial Day, its not that uncommon though.
July 1 The BFG vs.
The Legend of Tarzan vs. Agree with these picks?
Think one is being overvalued or undervalued?
