Thor: Ragnarokisnt just the best Thor movie.

Its the most cosmic Marvel movie this side of theGuardians of the Galaxyseries.

Its now availableto own on Blu-ray and DVD, too.

What is Ragnarok?

Ragnarok, of course, is the Norse twilight of the gods.

That crazy headdress has always been part of the party…

Her cinematic origins have a lot less in common with her comics counterpart than they do with Angela.

She first appeared in the comics version ofAge of Ultronand was revealed as Thor and Lokis sister inOriginal Sin.

Its seriously wild.)

We wrote much bonkers history right hereif youre interested.

There was, however aContest of Championscomic book series, where Grandmaster was very much the primary antagonist.

Thats his thing, pitting folks against each other, and hes quite good at it.

Valkyrie

Valkyrie has an extraordinarily complicated comic book history.

Fortunately, we detailed it ineasily digestible form for you right here.

Valkyrie is referred to as Scrapper 142 which might be a reference toThe Incredible Hulk#142.

Comics-Topaz is a sorceress originally fromWerewolf by Nightand not a bloodthirsty space badass.

It…it didnt end well for anyone involved.

However, he didnt fight Thor in the arena…he fought the Silver Surfer!

they swapped him out for Thor.

Beta Ray Bill may not actually be here, but he is in spirit.

You know the cover ofJourney Into Mystery#83 with Thor taking out a bunch of alien rock dudes?

Well, it turns out, one of em is Korg.

I dont think thats the case here, otherwise there would be more of him.

But he is also referred to in casual conversation as astonishingly savage.

The Savage Hulk has been the title of more than one Hulk series throughout Marvel history.

We detaileda couple of no Banner only Hulk punch in stories here.

Maybe not enough for me to mention it here, but Im mentioning it anyway.

Miscellaneous Cool Stuff

So it looks like weve finally identified everyone on Hulks tower here…

The first face (the one with the elephantine nose) is Man-Thing.

Down and to the right is Marvels Ares.

I desperately need to see him in a Marvel movie soon.

Thanks to Pat for spotting that, because thats a really cool catch.

Loki references that time I turned you into a frog to Thor.

This is a wonderful, wonderful reference to one of Walt Simonsons wackier Thor ideas…Throg.

No, I swear to god.

Thors short-haired look has been a thing recently inThe Unworthy Thorcomics.

Which reminds me, they really need to introduce Hercules into the MCU.

While on Earth, we get a nod to old comics continuity.

But dont start thinking that Thor is supposed to be Don Blake in these scenes!

For one thing, we already had a Don Blake joke in the firstThormovie.

Did you catchallthe cameos in the play scene?

That was Matt Damon as Loki, Sam Neill as Odin, and Chriss brother Luke Hemsworth as Thor.

Ive always loved this, as weird and implausible as it seems.

Wrath of the Mighty Thor sounds like it could be a comic book title.

And indeed, many Thor comics have been calledThe Mighty Thor.

Heres one for comparison:

you might see more here if you dont believe me.

And for real, if you havent seen theJodorowskys Dunedocumentary,I cant possibly recommend it enough.

Both movies are incredibly colorful and bonkers space operas.

What youre seeing is a detail from a page from Fantastic Four #64.

OK, these deserve a little more time, so we went intoa little more detail on them here.
