Sian Brooke laughs.
Grace and Stevies taxi ride ending isnt totally resolute, says Brooke.
Its been two series of will-they-wont-they?
Ive had the questionsomany times Are they going to get together?
It could be, you just dont know.
Wheres that taxi taking them?
In the violent and unpredictable world of Belfasts criminal underworld, will the characters even survive?
Humbly, she hopes that her character will make it at least a little way into series three.
If I were a betting man, Id put the house on it.
Grace is one ofBlue Lights masterstrokes.
Her upright presence has become, over two series, a planet around which the shows other satellites orbit.
I feel very lucky to play her.
I think that says a lot about her.
Theres mystery in Graces backstory (What happened with her son Cals dad?
What made her leave social work to retrain with the police?)
but Brooke is happy to leave some questions stand.
I like that shes slightly enigmatic in terms of you dont totally know what that backstory is.
Brooke laughs and jokes through our interview.
We did rapiers and daggers!
she exclaims, comparing it to her handling of firearms inBlue Lights.
Such a great word in itself.
Imagine Stevie there with a cloche!
Its no wonder it was a stretch for Brooke to play sociopathic prison inmate Eurus Holmes inSherlocks final series.
Total, total opposite to Grace.
It was quite a departure but I loved it.
I have such fond memories of that time, it was an incredible period in my life.
Again, I think theres something really sick and twisted about me because I loved playing her!
At the mention of Dolly Partons name, Brooke punches the air.
Ilovea bit ofDolly Parton!
That [pub scene] was probably about six weeks before we wrapped.
We werent able to drink, she laughs, so that was the only downside.
At the end of the day, they wont give in.
Thats a strong thread throughout.
Thats the beauty of it, she smiles.
And thanks to Brooke, its name might be Grace Ellis.
