Everyone thinks of Sean Connery as the ideal James Bond.
Everyone but 007 creator Ian Fleming, that is.
Eon Productions has not yet answered that question, despite rumors thatAaron Taylor-Johnsonhas been offered the part.
Its a time honored tradition, one that goes all the way back before the first Eon Bond movieDr.
In fact, Fleming didnt want Connery at all.
Although Connery won over Broccoli and Salzman through a disinterested interview with the producers, Fleming didnt agree.
It then fell toDr.
Nodirector Terrence Young to prove to Fleming that Connery could become the man he wanted.
I had a very clear idea of what an old Etonian should be, Young toldRolling Stonein 1983.
The look helped convince Fleming, but not as much as seeing Connery in action as Bond.
Connery captured the brutality of Bond, a roughness that the external refinements could never completely hide.
He even later revealed Scottish lineage in Bonds heritage, a true nod of approval toward the actor.
For his part, Connery didnt hold the reluctance against the author.
Does this change of heart mean that Fleming was wrong about his reservations?
Thats a lesson wed all do well to remember as the next era of Bond begins.
