The Battle For Middle-earth series is a nearly perfect representation of the Lord of the Rings franchise.
Too bad you might’t easily play it.
But for me, this series was the bestLord of the Ringshad to offer.
In the face of its sheer brilliance, theres a major problem standing between fans and theBattle for Middle-earthsaga.
Its not actually legally available anywhere.
But, taking so much inspiration from the movies,Battle for Middle-earthreally nailed the fundamentals.
The first game embraced the lore of Middle-earth and the second capitalized on the foundations that had been built.
Whats more, that very mythology was handled with care.
It did not take a stab at be original in this way.
They stand up not just as franchise titles but as satisfying strategy games altogether.
Some of you may well be encouraged to seek out the title yourselves.
But for the vast majority, these games simply arent legally available anymore.
They sit in an unusual position, out of copyright and between two studios.
Discovery, who do not appear to be keen to renew those licenses.
But the games lasting legacy could sadly be limited as it fades further into obscurity.
